Building God's Kingdom Through Academic Discipleship

Providence Board Members lead the school from a sense of wonder. We are amazed by God’s saving kindness to us and by his glory that we see in all of life. All Faculty, Staff, and Board Members are required to affirm this view of life that is:

Awe-Inspired

First, we are Awe Inspired. We are amazed at God’s glory and goodness.
  • We believe that God is sovereign over all of life and his glory is clearly seen in all subjects of study.
  • We believe that God is gracious to us. By faith, we trust that he delights in us as his adopted children through the substitutionary work of Christ on the cross.
  • We believe that God enables us to share this wonder with all the nations in words and deeds. His gracious providence propels us to offer our lives for others.

Historically Christian

Second, we are Historic Christians. We honor the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds as originally given to the church.

Broadly Evangelical

Third, we are Broadly Evangelical. We avoid partisan divisions, yet we embrace the basic theology of evangelical Christianity.
  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the true deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female, and that these distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.
  • We believe that God instituted human marriage between one man and one woman to meet our need for companionship, to create new life, to provide the basis for a stable human society, and to reflect God’s covenantal relationship with His people.
  • We believe that through Adam’s sin all fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God, so that every faculty of our humanity is corrupted by sin.
  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  • We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that faith without works is dead.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in God almighty, maker of heaven and earth. Therefore we approach all truth as edifying for those who believe in God, and we strive to understand every aspect of the world as part of God’s creation.
  • We believe God’s creation - including human thought and culture - is good, yet fallen from its proper relation to God. Therefore we approach the best of human culture as an expression of creation yearning to be reunited to God, and we recognize that our own understanding of God and creation is limited.
  • We believe that God acted decisively in history through the person and work of Jesus Christ, his son, to reconcile the world unto himself. Therefore the story of God‘s saving work in history is essential to our understanding of the world.
  • We believe God continues to work in history through his Holy Spirit to restore the image of God in us. Therefore we trust in God’s indwelling presence to empower us to discern truth, excellence, and beauty, and to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly before God.
  • We believe Holy Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
In response to the goodness and grace of God made manifest in creation, Christ, and the Holy Spirit, we develop our minds and our hearts that we may be good stewards of God’s creation and faithful bearers of Christ’s image in love and service to one another.
